 Web site design and construction

As well as my love of fabric, thread and designing and making textile items.

I also have a passion for computers. This has grown over the years from working with them extensively with my work at the time. To using various computer programs to manipulate source pictures for design, to now actually designing and building website's. Examples below.

ALL my sites are validated by the World Wide Web Consortium and have within them the symbols to show that they have passed this validation. This means the coding within the site is correct and will load and function properly within the browsers.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have, but a simple web site can be affordable.

A website of your own

Have you been thinking about having your own website but thought the cost of it would be out of your reach, well maybe not. OR do you know what you are looking for but do not know who to ask.

Maybe I can help you

As well as my love of fabric and thread and the design process that entails I also love working and designing on the computer for website's.

I have had computers for over 20 years and for many years worked with them. Over the last few years as technology has developed with packages enabling you to manipulate pictures I have had a greater interest.

I am now combining my love of design with that of computers to now designing and building website's. I try and listen to the customers needs of their business as well as their personality, as can been seen from the following examples. So if you want a reasonably priced web site, perhaps for your art based work.

The process

It does not matter where you live in the country as negotiation can be done via phone and email. All website's are different and have to be priced accordingly. Every one comes with email links and certain amount of pictures and graphics. I can supply pictures as well if you have none available. If you live within my area I can also visit you in person. ALL my sites are validated by the World Wide Web Consortium and have within them the symbols to show that they have passed this validation. This means the coding within the site is correct and will work correctly and smoothly within all browsers. If you click the symbols it will show the validation approval of the site.

What you need to do

Step 1: Think of a name that you want to be called, you may already have a trading name that you want to use. This is called your domain name and starts with www. and would be something like www.yourname.co.uk

The name has to be registered, this can take a couple of days to a week. If someone already has the name another has to be chosen. I can do this for you.

Once registered no one else can then use that name. It is yours to use until the registration runs out. Usual initial registration is 2 years.

Step 2: Is to think about how you would like your site to look.

How many pages, very colourful, nearly all pictures, lots of important information like dates etc. etc.

The site is also to reflect your business or personality. Think what you like in any sites you view. I would help you through all these processes. We will also discuss hosting packages. Hosting is where your website sits on a remote database until someone requests it. There is a yearly charge for this and every site HAS to be hosted.

Step 3: You will have to supply me with any pictures you want on the site and the wording. All this can be done via email, phone or letter. I have access to a number of stock photographs if you have not got any suitable.
For my own website

I wanted a very, very simple, matter of fact site, with enough but not too much information, in blocks so easy to read.

I wanted some black and white as like the sharpness of it and wanted to include the trees that surround me where I live. So I used a photo I had of them for my header.

My website has now become an e-commerce site selling some of the items I produce and design.

My intention has always been to have a second website, very arty, fun, casual, reflecting my personality and style and just for display of my own art work. This is still in the making!!!!! .........

If you are still interested as to what I can do for you... please read the following steps and make your own website a reality

What I will then do

Step 4: After listening what your requirements are I will then do various rough drafts on paper to plan the basic layout. Then start building the site. This can take several weeks and is dependent on other work restraints and your requirements for the site.

Step 5: All the way through I will keep in contact and show you drafts before final site is available for everyone to see. When you are happy I will put your website on the World Wide Web, for all to see and access

Step 6: I will make any small changes to the site at no cost for the first

3 months but after that period of time there will be a minimum charge.

Step 7:
All my sites are validated by the World Wide Web Consortium for correct coding and the symbol of approval is shown on the sites. This shows that the sites are coded correctly and will load and function properly within the browsers.

Step 8: I can also update your site on a regular basis if required.
